Services for Teachers and Organizations

The Wilmington Public Library offers a variety of services for teachers, homeschooling groups, daycare workers, Scout leaders, and others who work with youth. Phone or email the library for more information.

Professional Card

The Professional Card allows a teacher to check out books for five weeks with one renewal if no requests.   No late fees are charged on this card; but the card holder is responsible for any lost or damaged materials.  Teachers may check out five books on a topic or by one author, with a maximum of forty books.  This card may not be used for personal use such as checking out DVDs, Blu-Rays, or 14-day items. Click here for an application for a Professional Card.

Teacher Collection Requests

A teacher may request a collection for his/her classroom or homeschool.  Requests may be made by topics or specific titles using the WPL Teacher Collection Form.

Please allow one-two weeks for the collection to be prepared.  If books must be ordered through interlibrary loan, please allow up to four weeks.  When the collection is ready for pick-up, an email or phone message will be sent.  Collections must be picked up within seven days.  The collection will be bagged and checked out in advance.  Please bring your photo ID to the circulation desk to pick up your collection.

Library Tours

Youth Services staff members are available for tours and programs by appointment.  Options may include a story time and craft or a tour of the facility and explanation of how to use the online catalog.  Other types of tours or programs are available by  request.  Two weeks’ notice is required to schedule a tour and program.

Classroom Visits

Youth Services staff members can visit your classroom  or meeting to present programs.  Programs may include talking about the library, reading or telling stories, and presenting book talks.  These programs may be on a certain author or topic and may be fiction or nonfiction.  Spring programs also include skits to inform and excite students about the Summer Reading Program.  Call or email the library to set up a visit.
